Frequently asked questions
Can the PNG have a transparent background?
Yes. Tick “Transparent background”. Pages that paint their own white background stay white, but pages without one (many slides and vector drawings) become transparent.
Why are PNG files bigger than JPG?
PNG is lossless: every pixel is stored exactly. That keeps text razor-sharp but costs more bytes, especially for scanned pages and photos — use JPG for those.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The PDF is opened with PDF.js, an open-source renderer by Mozilla, inside your browser tab. The file and any password never leave your device.
Which DPI should I choose?
72 DPI for quick previews, 150 DPI for screens and email, 200 DPI for documents you will zoom into or run OCR on, 300 DPI for printing. Higher DPI means bigger files and slower conversion.
Why was my image smaller than the DPI I selected?
Very large pages (posters, engineering drawings) at high DPI would need more memory than a browser tab can safely use. They are scaled down to a safe size — the result list marks those images.
Can I convert a password-protected PDF?
Yes, if you know the password. You will be asked for it after adding the file. PDFs that only restrict printing or copying open without a password.
How are the files named?
Like “report-page-01.jpg”: the PDF name, the word “page” and a zero-padded page number, so the images sort correctly in any folder.
